My Stye Remedy

I don’t know the exact reason, but once in a while, it happens.

When I woke up one morning, I felt something in my right eye, and it was hard to open. My eyes had been itchy all day yesterday, but it didn’t feel like seasonal allergies. Later, I noticed my lower eyelid was red, swollen, and painful.

Aww… I had a stye.

What WebMD Recommends

According to WebMD, most styes can be treated at home. The recommendation is to:

  • Apply a warm compress to the affected eye for 10–15 minutes, 2–4 times daily, for several days.

  • Afterward, gently press the inflamed bump to help unplug the oil gland (with your eye closed).

  • Continue compressing until the stye comes to a head and bursts naturally.

  • Don’t squeeze it yourself — this can spread infection.

If the infection worsens, antibiotics may be necessary.

My Chamomile Remedy

ree

Years ago, a teacher at my esthetic school taught me a simple, soothing remedy: organic chamomile tea.

Here’s how I make it:

  • Steep 1 organic chamomile tea bag in ½ cup (4 oz) of boiled distilled water for about 30 minutes.

  • Let it cool to a safe temperature.

  • Soak a cotton pad or Q-tip and apply gently to the affected eyelid.

  • Reapply every 15–20 minutes as needed. (Do not double-dip!)

When I use this remedy, the stye usually doesn’t grow larger and clears within three days. In fact, the first night I tried it, my symptoms were 80% gone by the next morning.

Safety Notes

Chamomile is generally safe, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Avoid if you have allergies to marigold, ragweed, daisy, or chrysanthemum.

  2. If you’re on blood-thinning medication (like coumarin), check with your doctor before using chamomile in high amounts for long periods.

I personally use chamomile tea because it doesn’t sting if it accidentally touches the eye — unlike chamomile essential oil. I store it at room temperature during the day, then refrigerate it overnight.

I hope you never need this remedy, but if you do, I hope it helps soothe your eye quickly and gently.

Happy, healthy eyes! ✨
