Happy New Year! I wish you greater health and happiness in the year ahead.

I assume most of you haven’t had the chance to take care of your skin professionally since last year. So, how is your skin doing? Have you noticed any differences as the seasons shift?

There are many concerns when it comes to skin: dryness, dark circles, pimples, and more. But here’s the truth—using too many products at once (five or more) can actually overwhelm and stress the skin. Sometimes less really is more.

Why Simple Skin Maintenance Works

A skincare regimen should be simple and easy to follow. You don’t need to be an expert in skin anatomy—just understanding a few basics makes maintenance so much easier.

  • You don’t need to switch your entire routine with every season. Often, just updating your cleanser or moisturizer—or adding a serum or oil—is enough.

  • The same products won’t always perform the same way, as your skin’s needs change with the weather, stress, and life's cycles.

  • Pay attention to your skin’s signals and make small adjustments as needed.

The Role of Hormonal Cycles

Have you noticed your skin becomes oilier and prone to breakouts about a week before your menstrual cycle begins? Then on the actual day, your skin may feel dehydrated or dry.

Hormones influence your skin not only during major life stages—puberty, pregnancy, and menopause—but also during the smaller monthly shifts.

  • Before your period: Exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells and manage oiliness.

  • During your period: Focus on hydration, since the skin can become drier.

  • Avoid scrubbing active pimples: This can spread bacteria and make breakouts worse.

When trying a new skincare product, avoid testing it right before or during your cycle. Instead, introduce it a couple of days after your period ends, when hormones begin to balance out. This timing reduces the risk of irritation or a false reaction.

If your skin continues to react negatively, that product simply isn’t right for you. Listening to your body’s timing is key to healthy skin.

Every skin is unique. You don’t need to fit into someone else’s routine—you can define what your skin needs.
