OMG — 2021 is almost over! I hope you’re enjoying a cozy holiday season with your friends and family. 🎄✨
But let me ask: how about your skin? Is it feeling dry and itchy?
Here’s a question I often ask my clients: Do you know the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin?
Dry vs. Dehydrated
The answer is simple:
Dry skin = a lack of oil production in the skin.
Dehydrated skin = a lack of water in the skin.
And yes, even oily skin types can be dehydrated — especially during the drier winter months.
How to Tell the Difference
Dry skin often feels tight, itchy, or flaky.
Dehydrated skin looks dull and tired. You may see fine lines when you gently lift the skin with your finger, and pores may appear more visible.
Common Mistakes
The biggest mistake people make is stripping away what little protective oil and moisture the skin has — usually with harsh cleansers or hot water.
Another misconception is using facial mist alone. While refreshing, mist can actually make your skin feel drier if you don’t follow with a moisturizer to lock in hydration.
What to Do Instead
Reevaluate your skincare regimen, especially your cleanser.
Avoid harsh products and hot water.
You don’t need to switch all your products, just adjust what’s necessary.
If you’re unsure whether you’re using the right products — or if you'd like to learn how to maximize the benefits of what you already have — I’d be happy to help. 🌿
Stay safe, healthy, and nourished this winter.
